The IRS requires that, upon request, certain information be made available to the public, such as three years of tax filings. Similarly, the Standards of Excellence, developed and promoted by the Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organizations, recommends that this information be made available to the public annually.
IRS Exemption Information
The American Jail Association received exempt status in 1982 and is currently exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
According to the IRS, AJA will be treated as a publicly supported organization, and not a private foundation.
